A group of development journalists have called for decisive action by the government to address the issue of respiratory ailments, especially in the North.

The journalists therefore called on the Federal Government to speed up action to establish and complete medical oxygen plants cross the 36 state and Abuja.
The call was an outcome contained in a communique issued at the end of two-day media round table organized for Jigawa and Lagos media working groups under Inspiring project held at R&K Hotel Kano.
The communique commended the plans to establish the plants, describing it as a welcome development in tackling the high rate of child mortality in the country.
The meeting which was organized by the Save the Children International (SCI) and was attended by official from Federal Ministry of Health, representatives from Jigawa and Lagos ministries of health, representative from Pediatric Association of Nigeria (PAN), Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and Save the Children International (SCI).
According to the group, data and statistics should be made available to the media by Government, and health professionals to enhance their reportage on pneumonia.
The groups however promised to redouble their efforts in promoting health information, which would enable citizens have access to public healthcare services.
