The Anambra State Government has announced plans to prosecute Nnamdi Nnebe for attempted murder after he allegedly attacked his elder brother’s wife, Njideka Nnebe, with a dagger in Awka, the state capital.
Ify Obinabo, the State Commissioner for Social Welfare, Children and Women Affairs, made this known during a visit to the victim’s hospital bed on Tuesday. She emphasized the gravity of the offense and the government’s determination to ensure justice.
“Nobody has the right to inflict this kind of injury on anyone, even if the person is your wife,” Obinabo declared. “This case will not be allowed to be treated as a mere family issue, we will make sure that the right thing is done.”
The commissioner expressed concern about the increasing incidents of domestic violence, stating, “What kind of children are we breeding now? How can someone do this? He must face the law.”
According to the victim’s account, the incident stemmed from a dispute over children playing near the suspect’s tricycle (keke) parked in front of their family house in Awka. Njideka Nnebe explained that trouble began when the suspect wrongly accused her son of playing with his keke.
“That was when the knife pierced my right elbow to the other side,” Njideka recounted, describing how she defended herself when the suspect attacked with a dagger after she tried to protect her son during the altercation.
The commissioner emphasized the state government’s commitment to prosecuting the case fully. “I think we will follow up this case and insist that justice is served, to serve as a deterrent to other people, who may want to engage in such dastardly act,” Obinabo stated.

Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer for Anambra State, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). The police spokesperson, a superintendent of police, said the suspect is currently in police custody and will face court proceedings once investigations are concluded.
