The Joint National Association of Persons with Disability (JONAPWD) has urged its members to showcase their talents, skills, and creativity.
The call was made by Hon Adamu Sha’aibu, Chairman of JONAPWD in Jigawa State, on Tuesday during the commemoration of International Disability Day.
The theme for this year, “United in Action to Rescue and Achieve the SDGSs for, with, and by Persons With Disabilities,” emphasizes the collective effort needed to support inclusivity by eliminating physical, technological, and attitudinal barriers for people with disabilities.
Sha’aibu said the issue of inclusivity in disability is a collective responsibility of various and different stakeholders, starting from the family, community, government and society in general.
“There is a need for all relevant stakeholders to kindly put hands together to remedy the challenges facing the successful journey of a person with a disability to the promised land,” he remarked.
He also encouraged the members of JONAPWD across the 27 local governments of the state to strive to participate, and engage with other people to effectively maximize the use of their talent, skills, and creativity.
“Let me use this opportunity to call on all our members across the 27 local governments of the state to please stride up to participate, compete, interact, and engage with other people to show to the world that there is ability in disability,” he said.
The chairman commended the state government for implementing programs and activities that address the needs of people with disabilities in Jigawa State.
