The #WeCanWork program represents a significant regional effort aimed at transforming systems and mindsets to empower and enrich the lives of young individuals with disabilities, enabling them to access meaningful and dignified employment opportunities. Operational in seven African countries – Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Senegal, Ghana, and Nigeria – from 2023 to 2030, this initiative is geared towards fostering leadership skills among disabled youth, enhancing the inclusivity of existing Young Africa Works programs, and offering skills training to marginalized young men and women with disabilities.
The program targets individuals aged 17 to 35, with a strong emphasis on those facing heightened barriers in their employment journey, particularly young women with disabilities and those with limited or no formal education. This inclusive effort also encompasses young refugees, displaced individuals with disabilities, and disadvantaged youth from various backgrounds, spanning urban, peri-urban, and rural settings.
