The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has firmly denied any involvement in the admission process for Higher National Diploma (HND) students, addressing recent accusations from disgruntled students.
In a statement released by JAMB’s spokesman, Fabian Benjamin, the board clarified its role and responsibilities within Nigeria’s higher education system.
“The board has no involvement, authority, or control over the admissions process for HND candidates,” Benjamin stated, emphasizing JAMB’s limited mandate.
The clarification comes in response to claims made by some HND students who blamed JAMB for their inability to participate in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme.
These students reportedly attributed their non-mobilization for NYSC to having completed their National Diploma (ND) through part-time programs.
JAMB’s statement further elaborated on the scope of its responsibilities, asserting that the board is not accountable for admission processes in higher institutions beyond regular undergraduate admissions. “Candidates’ HND admissions are unknown and irrelevant to the mandate of JAMB,” the board declared, drawing a clear line between its duties and those of other educational bodies.

This announcement serves to dispel misconceptions about JAMB’s role in the broader landscape of Nigerian higher education.
The board’s primary function remains conducting the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and overseeing admissions into undergraduate programs at universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.
