On Sunday, Israel launched an attack on a Hezbollah site located in eastern Lebanon, near the Syrian border. This action comes amidst escalating tensions following a direct assault on Israel by Iran.
A source from Hezbollah, the Iran-backed group, informed AFP that the Israeli strike was aimed at an area near Baalbek. The target was a two-story building owned by Hezbollah. The source confirmed that there were no casualties resulting from the strike.
Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency reported that an “enemy air strike” had targeted and destroyed a building in the village of Nabi Sheet.
In a statement, the Israeli army revealed that in response to overnight launches, their “fighter jets struck a significant Hezbollah weapons manufacturing site” located deep inside Lebanon, in the Nabi Sheet area.
Earlier on Sunday, Hezbollah claimed to have launched two barrages of Katyusha rockets towards the Israeli-annexed Golan Heights. They stated that these launches were in retaliation to Israeli attacks on “villages and towns” within Lebanon.
These launches coincided with a major Iranian drone and missile attack against Israel. This Iranian attack was reportedly in response to an April 1 air strike, widely attributed to Israel, which resulted in the destruction of an Iranian consulate building in Damascus and the death of seven Revolutionary Guards, including two generals.
Hezbollah, an ally of the Palestinian militant group Hamas, has been involved in near-daily cross-border exchanges of fire with Israel since October 7, when southern Israel was attacked by the Palestinian group, leading to a war in the Gaza Strip.
The violence, primarily confined to the Israeli-Lebanese border area, has resulted in the death of at least 364 individuals in Lebanon. The majority of these casualties are Hezbollah fighters, but the count also includes at least 70 civilians, according to an AFP tally.
On Sunday, Hezbollah announced the death of one of its fighters from south Lebanon’s Khiam, without providing further details regarding the time or location of his death.
The Israeli army also reported that its fighter jets had targeted Hezbollah “military structures” in southern Lebanon overnight, including in Khiam.
The National News Agency reported Israeli attacks on various locations in southern Lebanon overnight, and at least one strike on Sunday afternoon.
In Israel, the military has reported the death of 10 soldiers and eight civilians since the onset of hostilities.
The conflict has led to the displacement of tens of thousands of civilians on both sides of the border.
