The IREPRESENT Documentary Film Festival has issued a heartfelt tribute to Tam Fiofori, a renowned Nigerian photographer, filmmaker, and author, who passed away on June 25, 2024. Fiofori, a titan in Nigeria’s documentary ecosystem, left an indelible mark on the country’s cultural landscape through his decades-long career.
Born in 1942, Fiofori’s journey in the arts spanned over half a century. He was known for his innovative approach to storytelling through photography and film, often using his work as a lens to examine and comment on Nigerian society, culture, and history.
Femi Odugbemi, speaking on behalf of the Directorate and Board of the iREPRESENT International Documentary Film Festival Lagos, said, “Tam Fiofori’s legacy is one of brilliance, innovation, and an unyielding spirit. He not only chronicled history but also inspired a new generation of filmmakers and photographers to pursue truth and authenticity in their work.”
Fiofori’s relationship with the IREP festival was particularly noteworthy. According to Odugbemi, “His presence at nearly every single edition of our festival was a testament to his commitment and passion for the craft. Even in his later years, he continued to submit new work, demonstrating his relentless creativity and his desire to capture the ever-evolving stories of our times.”
