The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has expressed its concern over the prolonged detention of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, in solitary confinement at the Department for State Service (DSS) facility.
The group has denounced this continued detention, citing it as a violation of Kanu’s rights and a disregard for court orders that have directed his release.
In a statement issued by IPOB’s lead counsel, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, the group calls on the Federal Government to immediately set Kanu free.
Ejiofor emphasizes that Kanu has been held in detention for an extended period and demands his immediate release.
The statement highlights the fact that Kanu’s continued illegal and unconstitutional confinement in solitary confinement at the DSS facility is a clear violation of his human rights.
It goes against the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution, the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, the United Nations General Assembly Resolution on the Rights to Self-Determination, and other international conventions and treaties to which Nigeria is a signatory.
According to IPOB, the Nigerian government must adhere to its own laws, international conventions, and court orders by releasing Nnamdi Kanu promptly.
The group firmly asserts that enough is enough and calls for immediate action to ensure Kanu’s freedom.
