Archbishop, Province of Kaduna, the most Reverend Timothy Yahaya, has said that the uncontrollable inflation in the price of goods and commodities in Nigeria has gone beyond any economy understanding.
The clergy man lamented that with the present economic situation in the country, Nigerians can hardly plan their lives, as the poverty and hardship amongst Nigerians is on the increase.
” At every hour, the price of goods in the market changed without any form of control, and this has put more Nigerians into poverty. This is a country that you can wake up and do whatever you like,” he said.
Rev’d Yahaya asserted this during the 23 Synod and the 70th anniversary of Kaduna diocese on Sunday in Kaduna, where he also opined that the government must have a rethink on some of its policies to meet the reality on ground.
” It seems the leadership of the country have lost touch with the reality, and this is because, they live their lives as if nothing has a sense of urgency in the suffering of Nigerians. This is a thing of concern.
“This is a country that we collect debt that our generation to come can not pay. Sincerely and honestly, as a religious leader, I have travelled the length and breath of this country, and the more debt we collect, the more our infrastructures are decaying. And the question I ask is, who is using this money they are collecting, and for what?
On the revejunation of the nation’s economy, Rev’d Yahaya explained that the only way that the country can prosper is to go back to production, especially on agriculture.
This is just as he disclosed that Nigeria as a country is living on top of gold and diamond, but yet its people are in artificial poverty and hunger.
While frowning at the unaccountability of Federal Government on the money realised from the removal of fuel subsidy, the clergyman further said: “with the removal of fuel subsidy, I thought more money will come to enhaced our foreign reserve, but that is not.”
Speaking further, he added that the government had throwned Nigerians into the dark by not keeping them abreast on how much is being realised mothly from the fuel subsidy removal, and how the money realised from the subsidy is being spent.
He therefore urged Nigerians not to relent in prayers, and call upon God to touch the mind of the leaders to do the right thing.
