The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially released the final voter registers for the upcoming governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states.
This announcement was made on Tuesday by Sam Olumekun, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee.
According to Olumekun, “The final registers were approved at the commission’s meeting in Abuja.”
The updated registers now include new voters from the recent Continuous Voter Registration exercise and successful applicants who transferred their registration from other states.
Edo State Voter Demographics
In Edo, the gender breakdown shows: 1,370,061 (52.11%) male voters, 1,258,964 (47.89%) female voters
Age distribution reveals:983,133 (37.4%) youth voters (18-35 years), 914,806 middle-aged voters (36-49 years)
These two age groups combined account for 72.2% of registered voters in Edo.
Occupational data indicates: 868,764 (33.05%) students, forming the largest voting bloc, 4,199 (0.16%) Persons with Disability (PWD)
The new register represents a 4.9% increase from the 2,501,081 figure recorded for the 2023 General Elections.
Ondo State Voter Demographics
Ondo’s voter register shows:1,034,006 (50.36%) male voters, 1,034,964 (47.89%) female voters
Age distribution indicates:726,944 (35.41%) youth voters (18-35 years), 721,982 (35.17%) middle-aged voters (36-49 years)
These groups collectively make up 70.57% of registered voters in Ondo.
Occupational data reveals:694,938 (33.85%) students, forming the largest voting bloc, 1,782 (0.09%) Persons with Disability (PWD)
Olumekun noted that the new registers represent significant increases compared to the 2023 General Elections figures. Edo State saw a 4.9% increase from 2,501,081 voters, while Ondo State experienced a 3.0% increase from 1,191,344 voters.
“The detailed breakdown of the register for each state by Local Government Areas, gender, age, occupation and disability has been uploaded to INEC website and social media platforms for public information,” Olumekun stated.
He further added, “In the next few days, INEC will release the timetable for the collection of Permanent Voter Cards in the two states.”
