Ibom Air, a commercial airline operated by the Akwa Ibom State Government, has refuted recent media claims stating that it has halted flights to the Margaret Ekpo International Airport in Calabar, Cross River State.
In a statement issued by Aniekan Essienette, the airline’s Group Manager of Marketing and Communications, the company clarified the situation. Essienette explained that due to an unexpected issue with one of their aircraft, they had to temporarily reduce certain operations, including flights on the Abuja-Calabar route. However, it is important to note that their flights between Lagos and Calabar continue to operate as scheduled.
Essienette stated that Ibom Air has duly informed the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority and affected passengers about the circumstances.

The airline is actively working to rectify the problem with the unserviceable aircraft and anticipates completing the necessary repairs within a few days. Once the aircraft is operational again, flights on the Abuja-Calabar route will resume promptly.
The airline expressed its apologies to the affected passengers for any inconvenience caused and reassured them of its unwavering commitment to ensuring uninterrupted services to Calabar in the future.
Ibom Air acknowledged the significance of maintaining reliable air travel options for passengers and pledged to swiftly resolve the current operational challenges.
With a fleet comprising five Bombardier CR900 and two Airbus A220-300 aircraft, Ibom Air serves 11 routes across six cities in Nigeria, including Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt, Enugu, and Uyo.
The airline has gained a reputation as one of Nigeria’s most successful carriers, earning the prestigious Best Airline of the Year award for three consecutive years from 2020 to 2022.
Building on its achievements, Ibom Air aims to expand its commercial flights to West and Central African countries.
In line with this goal, the airline signed an agreement with Airbus in November 2021 for the acquisition of ten brand new aircraft. The arrival of the first batch of these aircraft is eagerly anticipated.
As Ibom Air refutes the reports of flight suspension to Calabar, it remains steadfast in its pursuit of providing reliable and seamless air travel experiences to its passengers.
