The House of Representatives mourns another loss as Ekene Adams, representing Chikun/Kajuru federal constituency of Kaduna State, passed away on Tuesday. This marks the second death of a House member within a week.
Akin Rotimi, spokesperson for the House, confirmed the tragic news to PREMIUM TIMES.
“We will release an official statement to provide more details,” Rotimi stated.
Adams, who served as the chairman of the House Committee on Sports, was elected to the House in 2023 on the platform of the Labour Party. His background in sports management included roles as general manager of Kada City FC in Kaduna State and Remo Stars in Ogun State.
The cause of Adams’ death has not been disclosed.
This loss follows closely on the heels of Olaide Akinremi passing last Wednesday after a brief illness. Earlier this year, the House also mourned the deaths of members Abdulkadir Danbaba and Isa Dogon Yaro.
In response to this latest tragedy, both chambers of the National Assembly are expected to adjourn their Tuesday sessions early as a mark of respect for their departed colleague.
The consecutive losses have cast a somber mood over the legislative body, highlighting the unpredictable nature of life even in the halls of power.
