Hoodlums in large numbers have attacked a Nigerian Customs outstation in Yauri local government area of Kebbi State, vandalising a vehicle and other facilities.
The Explainer gathered that a combined team of Yauri outstation and surveillance was informed of a suspected smuggling activity at Yauri Waterside. Upon arriving at the scene, 41 bags of foreign parboiled rice were seized, and taken to the customs outstation.
Afterward, the aggrieved smugglers organised a mob to attack the outpost.
Reacting to the incident, the spokesperson of the Command, Mohmmed Tajudeen-Salisu said the hoodlums vandalised a senior officer’s car and destroyed offices and air conditioners.
It was also gathered that 1 AK47 rifle was carted away, but retrieved shortly, and 29 out of 41 bags of the seized rice were taken away by the mob.
Tajudeen said some suspects have been arrested while others are still on the run.
