Senator Ayogu Eze, a former lawmaker who represented the Enugu North Senatorial District from 2007 to 2015, has passed away at the age of 66. According to his colleagues and friends, Eze’s demise leaves a void in the political landscape and in the hearts of many who knew him.
The Explainer learnt that Senator Eze succumbed to a prolonged illness in an Abuja hospital. The severity of his condition had previously prevented him from attending his child’s wedding ceremony in Lagos earlier this year.
Born in 1958, Ayogu Eze was a prominent figure in Nigerian politics. He began his political career as a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a party that played a significant role in shaping the country’s democratic landscape.

However, his journey took an interesting turn when he defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), where he ran for the Enugu State governorship election.

In 2007, he was appointed chairman of the Senate Committee on Information and Media, making him the official spokesperson of the Senate. His eloquence and ability to communicate effectively contributed to the Senate’s transparency and public awareness.
After his re-election to the Senate in 2011, Senator Eze assumed the role of chairman of the Committee on Works. His dedication to infrastructure development and efficient project execution left a lasting impact.

In May of last year, the Senate confirmed the appointment of Ayogu Eze and five others as Federal Commissioners for Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).
