The Canada High Commission to Nigeria in Abuja has suspended its operations until further notice. The Embassy issued a travel advisory warning against non-essential travel to Nigeria.
The statement was made in a post on its X handle on Tuesday, November 7. The suspension is coming after an explosion during generator repair at the High Commission on Monday. Two lives were lost in the incident, while others were injured.
The Explainer gathered that the fire occurred at about 10:30 a.m. on Monday. The tweet read, “As a result of the incident, the High Commission of Canada in Abuja is closed until further notice”.
The Commission thereafter directed Canadians who are in need of assistance to contact the Global Affairs, Canada Emergency Watch and Response Centre.
The Global Affairs Canada has sympathized with the families of those killed in the fire incident and also wished speedy recovery for the injured.
