Nollywood actress Mercy Aigbe has suffered a devastating fire incident at her Lagos home on Tuesday, which reduced her multi-million-naira property to ashes.
The 46-year-old movie star shared a video of the charred remains on Wednesday, expressing her emotional response.
“Devastated, but I thank God no life was lost. It is well,” Aigbe wrote, demonstrating resilience in the face of significant property damage.
Thousands of fans, colleagues, and followers have since flooded her social media with messages of support and prayers.
Authorities have not yet released an official statement regarding the fire’s cause, leaving the circumstances surrounding the incident uncertain.
The timing is particularly challenging for Aigbe, who is set to premiere her second cinema movie, ‘Thin Line,’ on December 13.
This is not the first fire-related tragedy Aigbe has experienced. In October 2022, her mother’s home was allegedly set ablaze by her sister, Patience Aigbekaen, amid familial conflicts involving allegations of ‘witchcraft’ and ‘unresolved financial disputes’.
Previously, during the promotional period for her 2023 film ‘Omo Daddy’, Aigbe survived a potentially dangerous road accident when her tyres were damaged on the Lagos-Benin road, an incident she described as the scariest moment of her life.
Aigbe is not alone in experiencing such calamities. Other Nollywood stars have also suffered significant losses, including Bidemi Kosoko, whose home was destroyed by fire in December 2023, and comedian AY Makun, whose Lekki mansion was gutted by fire in August 2023.
