The Federal Government has officially declared public holidays for the upcoming Christmas and New Year celebrations, with festivities spanning from December 25, 2024, through January 1, 2025.
Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the announcement through a statement signed by Permanent Secretary Dr Magdalene Ajani.
The holidays will cover Christmas Day (December 25), Boxing Day (December 26), and New Year’s Day (January 1, 2025).
“The Christmas season is a good moment for both spiritual reflection and national renewal. As we celebrate the birth of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, let us demonstrate kindness and extend goodwill to one another, irrespective of our differences,” Dr Tunji-Ojo stated.
The minister emphasized the season’s significance as an opportunity to strengthen family and community bonds while promoting national unity. He urged citizens to use the festive period for reflection on fundamental values of love, peace, and unity that characterize the season.
In his message to the nation, Dr Tunji-Ojo reaffirmed the Federal Government’s dedication to maintaining peace, security, and prosperity across the country.
He expressed optimism about President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, predicting that 2025 would usher in economic prosperity that would position Nigeria as a global economic powerhouse.
The minister extends warm wishes to all Nigerians for a joyous Christmas celebration and a prosperous new year, while emphasizing the importance of remaining committed to the nation’s progress and development.
