The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has categorically dismissed a TikTok video circulating on social media that falsely depicts the demolition of a plaza on Lobito Crescent, Wuse II, in Abuja.
The FCTA has labeled the video as a deliberate attempt to spread misinformation and create unwarranted panic among residents. Setting the record straight, the administration clarified that the video was recorded back in 2021 and does not show any demolition taking place. Instead, the Department of Development Control identified a violation related to the building’s use, and appropriate measures were promptly implemented to address the matter responsibly. Contrary to the video’s claims, the building remains intact, with only the non-compliant section removed to ensure adherence to regulations.
In an effort to provide clarity, a current photograph of the building was included in a statement signed by Anthony Ogunleye, Director of Press at the Office of the FCT Minister. The image serves as undeniable evidence of the building’s continued existence. The FCTA emphasizes the utmost care taken in enforcing regulations while prioritizing the safety and well-being of residents.
Strongly condemning the deliberate dissemination of false information, the FCTA highlights the insidious nature of attaching ethnic connotations to such misleading videos. Such mischief only serves to create unnecessary fear and disunity among communities, ultimately disrupting social cohesion.
