An image circulating on Facebook claims that the home of Justice Haruna Simon Tsammani, Chairman of the 2023 Presidential Election Tribunal, was attacked by thugs after ruling against Bola Tinubu. The image shows Justice Haruna’s picture alongside a building on fire, and the accompanying caption alleges that thugs targeted his home following a biased ruling against Tinubu.
Upon discovering the image and its associated claim, fact-checkers from The Explainer fact-checked the claims to verify its authenticity through reverse image search and the search revealed that the picture was not recent and had no connection to Justice Haruna’s home.
Instead, the image was an old picture from a separate incident that occurred during the ENDSARS protests in 2020, where the Igbosere court in Lagos was set on fire by protesters.
Again, there is no evidence to suggest that Justice Haruna has delivered any judgment on a case involving President Bola Tinubu as the tribunal has not concluded sitting on the matter. Moreover, reputable media sources have not reported such an incident.
Therefore, The Explainer concludes that the claim of Justice Haruna’s home being attacked and set ablaze by alleged thugs is unfounded, false and misleading.
