Fact checkers at The Explainer have spotted a material making a round on facebook with the claim that President Tinubu has suspended the NNPC Ltd boss, Mele Kyari. The claim was an image of Kyari with caption “the NNPC Ltd boss, has been suspended with immediate effect”. Facebook users Abubakar Jibirin and Amb Umar posted the claim. Kyari was appointed NNPC group chief executive by former president Muhammadu Buhari in 2019.
The Explainer visited the official twitter handle of the Daily trust media that was alleged to have published the report and found a post that debunked the claim which read, “it has come to our notice that some persons are attributing false report to Daily trust. Our esteemed reader should note that the last report we published on the suspension of any official was that of the CBN Governor. The Explainer also found that other credible news media have also reported that the president didn’t suspend the NNPC helmsman. The claim that President Tinubu has suspended the NNPC Boss Mele Kyari with immediate effect is false.
