A viral message circulating on social media claims that a federal high court in Nigeria has issued an injunction preventing all security agencies from apprehending or detaining Murtala Ajaka, the gubernatorial candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kogi State.
The CDD War Room, has investigated the claim and confirmed its accuracy. Murtala Ajaka did file a motion seeking protection from potential harm and harassment by both state and non-state actors. The federal high court reviewed the motion and granted an order that restrained the respondents, their agents, and anyone acting on their behalf from arresting, inviting, detaining, or threatening Ajaka’s life and property until the determination of the substantive case. The court adjourned the matter, and during a subsequent hearing in September 2023, it reserved judgement and maintained the restraining order, thereby prohibiting the candidate’s arrest until a final judgement is delivered.
Importantly, the court’s decision does not determine guilt or innocence but was granted based on the circumstances presented to ensure the safety and security of Murtala Ajaka during the ongoing legal proceedings.

It is also worth noting that Murtala Ajaka has faced accusations from the Kogi State Police Command regarding baseless claims about planned attacks against himself and his supporters. In response, Ajaka has alleged collusion between Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello and security operatives to instigate violence against his supporters. The police command has dismissed these claims as an attempt to tarnish its reputation and integrity.
