The Explainer fact checkers have spotted a video making the round on social media with a claim that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu recently instructed the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) to re-open the Idiroko border for import and export of goods and services.

The video which shows some NCS officers allegedly reopening the Iroko border was used to advance the claim that the border was being reopened based on the President’s instruction. To verify the claim, The Explainer fact checkers employed the use of keyword searches and the result found the same footage was published way back in April 2022 – more than a year before Tinubu was sworn in as President in May 2023. The Explainer fact checkers can therefore conclude that the claim is false, and the video is misleading.
