Fact checkers at the Explainer have spotted a video circulating Facebook and Twitter with claims that Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu fell during a tour of the new Office of National Security Adviser at the National Counter Terrorism Centre in the country’s capital Abuja on 5th June 2023. The video which shows Tinubu and his security entourage walking towards his seat was posted on Facebook with username Hajmaja Baba Adugbo and captioned: “Ahahahahah!!! Drama as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR took a tumble then falls at the Office of the National Security Adviser ONSA today. May your enemies always be saddened as you accomplish more and claim more lands.”

The video can also be seen on the Twitter handle @TheBATgangan with caption “Drama as Tinubu falls at ONSA today.” The Explainer carefully examined the 18 second video and found out the claim to be untrue. The short video does not at any point show the President falling down. The Explainer further subjected the video to a reverse image search where the result shows that the full video had been published on the YouTube page of Channels Television earlier than the time of the claim and the video does not show the president to have fallen down during the tour. Further findings reveal that there has not been any credible media that has published such a claim. The Explainer can therefore conclude with evidence that the claim that President Tinubu fell during a tour of the Office of National Security Adviser is false and misleading.
