In a shocking turn of events on Monday, August 21 an unauthorised sting operation carried out by three unidentified policemen was bravely resisted by neighbours in Becky 2 Estate along City College Road, Mararaba, Nasarawa State. According to eye witnesses, the incident which happened at No. 28 Ralph Madu saw the police storming the area to arrest three residents.
It took the courageous action of fellow residents to block the police car before the officers abandoned the vehicle and took to their heels. However, the driver of the vehicle was apprehended by residents and is currently assisting with investigations. the illicit raid and took courageous action to confront the officers, leading to a series of dramatic events.
Eyewitnesses narrated to The Explainer that the police officers showed no warrant of arrest or any invitation letter. They also refused to properly document themselves and their mission at the estate’s police post. After forcing three of the residents into their car, they attempted to drive off with them.
A whatsapp update on the incident by the Estate’s Public Relations Officer (PRO) noted that the brave residents of the community stood their ground, demanding proper identification of the officers and the reason the residents were being taken away.
“Notably, Mr. Doyin emerged as a hero when he valiantly gave chase to the rogue policemen, resulting in a collision that left him injured, along with the bike rider who suffered critical injuries and is currently hospitalized.
Despite the officers managing to escape with the victims’ mobile devices, quick action from the community led to the apprehension of the driver involved in the operation.
“He was immediately transported to the Abacha Road Police Station (B-Division) for further investigation and subsequent prosecution. Present at the station were the suspect, Commander Williams, the victim, along with his brothers, the estate police personnel, and several executive committee members.”
The Explainer gathered that during the interrogation of the driver who was apprehended, the incident was identified as an illegal sting operation.”
The police thereafter assured the public that a thorough investigation will be conducted, and those responsible for the misconduct will face the full force of the law.
