HAFSAT MOHAMMED BABA, a former Kaduna State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development under ex-Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), barely 24 hours after her former boss left the ruling party.
In a letter addressed to the APC chairman, Baba announced her withdrawal from the party, citing its deviation from its founding ideals. Her resignation adds to the growing discontent within the party, particularly among political allies of the former Kaduna governor.
“The chairman may note that I came into the negotiations to form the APC as the incumbent and hence, legacy National Woman Leader of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN),” she wrote. “We joined the merger to entrench democratic order and justice in a political space that was in dire need of a new direction.”

Echoing El-Rufai’s criticism, Baba accused the APC of straying from its core principles of justice, peace, and unity. She stated that remaining in the party would contradict her personal beliefs.
“As an ardent proponent and follower of these principles, continued association with the party as it is currently constituted is against my personal principles (Aqida),” she said.
Baba did not disclose her next political move but hinted at further actions in collaboration with like-minded allies.
“Further actions and political decisions will follow as myself and like-minds deem appropriate and as may keep us on our founding and still extant principles of justice and political order,” she added.
