The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained Kayode Cole for allegedly threatening the life of the commission’s Chairman, Ola Olukoyede.
The arrest, which occurred in the Lugbe district of Abuja on Monday, March 18, was made public through the commission’s official X handle (formally known as Twitter) on Thursday.
EFCC said the threat emerged on Instagram, where Cole, using the handle “1billionsecretss” on Instagram, commented on a post by Instablog9ja.
Dated February 1, 2024, the post highlighted the EFCC Chairman’s claims of a religious sect’s involvement in laundering money for terrorist activities.
“A Religious Sect Is Laundering Money for Terrorists. We Traced N7 Billion Fraud Proceeds to another Religious Group – EFCC Chairman”. The post read.
Reacting in the comment section of Instablog9ja, Cole’s comment was a chilling prophecy: “He will be dead in six months. This man will be dead in 6 months, remember I said it.”
Upon his arrest and during the interrogation, Cole brushed off his comment as an attempt at “chasing clout.”
Despite his claim, the seriousness of the threat has led to his current detention and he awaits further investigation and potential prosecution.
This incident follows a startling disclosure by Olukoyede at a recent event in Abuja on January 30, 2024, where he shed light on the discovery of a religious sect’s financial dealings with terrorist groups.
He also mentioned that another religious organization appeared to be harboring a money launderer, with suspicious funds traced back to their account.
