Nigerian music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over issues in the ongoing Edo State governorship election.
On his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Davido described INEC as Nigeria’s most dangerous institution, citing his personal connection to Edo, where his late mother hailed from.
He referenced his experience during the 2022 Osun State gubernatorial election, where multiple efforts and public outcry led to improvements.
Davido tweeted, “My mom is from Edo… but we as Nigerians should be concerned… @inecnigeria shame on you. I know how many times I had to rant before they got it right in Osun! It’s really bad. God help us.”
He also responded to Deputy Inspector General of Police Frank Mba’s suggestion that voters return home after casting votes. Mba urged Edo residents to exercise their civic duty and head home, announcing a 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. vehicular movement restriction on Saturday.
Davido reacted with, “Loooooooool, go where???”
Davido has publicly supported PDP candidate Asue Ighodalo in the lead-up to the election ¹. Meanwhile, APC candidate Monday Okpebholo expressed confidence in his victory, commending INEC’s handling of the election process ².
