General Christopher Musa, Chief of Defence Staff, has stated that individuals flying the Russian flag in Nigeria have committed a treasonable offense.
Speaking after an emergency security meeting with President Bola Tinubu at Aso Rock, General Musa vowed that the law would catch up with such persons.
Warning those calling for a coup, Musa emphasized that the military has accepted democracy and will never allow regime change. “We briefed Mr. President on the situation on the ground. Since the riot began, all security agencies have been working together. Initially, it was claimed to be a peaceful protest, but we have realized that some individuals are taking advantage of it to cause mayhem.”
Musa condemned the flying of foreign flags within Nigeria’s sovereignty, stating, “That is totally unacceptable. We are warning in clear terms that we will not accept anybody flying any foreign flag in Nigeria. That is a treasonable offense, and it will be viewed and treated as such.”
He also addressed the issue of coups, reiterating that Nigeria is a sovereign and democratic nation, and that all security agencies are committed to defending democracy.
He said, “We will not accept anyone pushing for a change of government. Democracy is what we stand for, and democracy is what we will continue to defend.”
Musa noted that some individuals flying flags are being sponsored and that the authorities are identifying and taking action against those responsible.
“The President has given clear instructions for us not to accept anyone disrupting Nigeria’s peace and tranquility. We are working closely together to ensure peace and tranquility in Nigeria,” he added.
