A Kano high court has sentenced 47-year-old Chinese national Frank Geng-Quangrong, to death by hanging for killing Ummukulsum Sani, his 22-year-old Nigerian girlfriend.
Justice Sanusi Ado-Ma’aji, delivered the judgement on Tuesday, saying “The defendant’s testimony is inconsistent. I hereby find him guilty,”
On September 16, 2022, Geng-Quangrong stabbed his girlfriend to death at her residence in Janbulo quarters, Kumbotso LGA of Kano.
The Chinese national fled the scene after the incident while the lady was rushed to the hospital, where she was consequently confirmed dead.
However, days later, police confirmed the arrest of Geng-Quangrong and charged him with culpable homicide.
In his testimony, the Chinese national said he did not “intentionally” stab the deceased but did so in self-defence after she grabbed his testes.
The prosecution led by the Attorney-General of Kano State, Haruna Dederi told the court that the offence contravenes section 221(b) of the Penal Code.
The prosecution presented six witnesses and four exhibits to prove their case against the defendant.
Meanwhile, Muhummad Dan’azumi, the defence counsel, presented the defendant to defend himself. He also presented one other witness and tendered five exhibits.
“I didn’t kill Ummulkhulsum intentionally but stabbed her in self-defence after she grabbed my testes,” Frank stated.
Passing the judgement, the trial judge, Ado-Ma’aji said the prosecution team proved their case “beyond reasonable doubt.”
