The Committee for Relevant Art (CORA) has announced the launching of its Library & Resource Centre at Freedom Park, located in Lagos Island, Lagos State.
Scheduled for Sunday, January 14, 2024, the flagship library will be unveiled at CORAVille, a dedicated section within Freedom Park.
A statement by CORA’s Programme Officer, Ifunanya Ottih said the event will be attended by Nobel Prize winner, Wole Soyinka, as the special guest of honour.
Ottih said the Library & Resource Centre aims to cater to the interests of the general public, with a particular focus on the educational development of students and youths.
“The intention is to continue to encourage the citizenry to see education as the regular key to enlightenment and empowerment; all in the cause of nation-building and human capital development”, she said.
Ottih added that the Library will host various literary activities, most notably “CORA BOOKTrek, a literacy campaign project that facilitates direct encounters between authors and readers which provides a platform for intellectual discourse and offers insights into the creative process behind the written works”.
“It will serve as a hub for artist organizations dedicated to deepening literacy in the nation’s consciousness,” she said.
Ifunanya said the project was supported by the Hawthorndon Foundation, CORA’s Board members, volunteers and subscribers.
