A frontline civil society organization working on transparency and accountability, Connected Development (CODE) called for the completion of an abandoned school project located in Okorobilom Community in Obolo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. According to an update on its Facebook page, the group said its efforts to push for the completion of the project was informed by the need to give the opportunity to children in the rural community to have access to quality education. The group in a statement said: “In order to improve learning in Akwa Ibom State, we are drawing the attention of the Akwa Ibom state Government to the current state of Government Primary School Okorobilom Community in Obolo LGA of Akwa Ibom State.
“Last year contract was awarded for the construction of a new building to relocate the school. The project has been abandoned without completion, and this has been a big concern to the community which has led to the continuous advocacy through a project titled Power of Voices, an initiative supported by Oxfam in Nigeria.” CODE subsequently called on Akwa Ibom State Government to ensure the contractors handling the project return and remain on site for its swift completion in order to improve learning in the community.
