A political activist and founder of Code and Follow the Money, Hamzat Lawal has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to conduct an independent ecological fund audit to ensure accountability.
Hamzat Lawal made the call while fielding questions from journalists on the sidelines of Civic Engagement and Campaign Development for 25 emerging political leaders, in Abuja on Thursday.
He lamented that ecological funds have not made the desired impact on the lives of citizens.
According to him, Nigeria just came out of a flood that Killed many people and cost the nation millions of naira, and this necessitates an audit of ecological funds.
“We cannot say we have a government that came to office on the mantra of the anti-corruption and they are not open to ensure they provide audit on the judicious use of public resources.
“This does not speak well of President Muhammadu Buhari led administration and I hope that he would call for an independent audit and give Nigeria information on what has happened to the money gone into ecological fund.”
While speaking on mentorship for emerging political leaders, the activist explained that there has been a huge gap, which is affecting the leadership recruitment process in the country.
“We are preparing to bridge the gap with the next set of leaders and also create an avenue where it can become the supportive system, collaborate, and ensure our country, and communities are proud”.
One of the fellows and also Programme Manager at the Bridge Leadership Foundation, Mrs. Rosemonde Archibong said the fellowship aims to prepare and nurture Nigerians that are interested in running for political positions at the State, local, and federal levels.
