A coalition of civil society organizations, under the Network of Civil Societies for Economic Sustainability (NCSES), has staged a protest demanding the resignation of Nyesom Wike as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The coalition staged the protest at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja on Wednesday, December 6.
The convener of the NCSES, Adamu Matazu said Wike’s actions have been “detrimental to the progress and growth of the FCT and the nation as a whole”.
“We stand united to express our concern over the direction of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) under the watch of Nyesom Wike. It’s abysmal and disturbing for the FCT to become an epicentre of controversy due to the misguided actions of Wike, which not only undermine President Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda but also cast a shadow on the credibility of the federal government.”, Matazu
The coalition further alleged that Wike’s land reforms were targeted at dispossessing Nigerians of their properties and accused him of corruption in land allocation.
They called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to address Wike’s alleged disruptive tendencies and ensure that the objectives set for the FCT are pursued diligently and without distractions.
During the protest at the National Assembly complex, thousands of FCT indigenes and civil society groups called for Wike’s resignation and an investigation into his land allocation policies.
They urged prompt action to safeguard the integrity of the administration and ensure that the FCT’s reforms and development are carried out effectively.
