Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has announced the suspension of academic activities in response to the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protests in the state.
In a statement released on Monday, university spokesperson Lamara Garba said, “After a careful review of the situation in Kano State as a result of the National Protest, the University Management has directed that all scheduled lectures should be suspended forthwith.”
The Vice Chancellor commended the university community for maintaining peace on campus during this turbulent period.
Garba emphasized that normal operations would resume once the situation stabilizes, stating, “As soon as normalcy returns, all academic and administrative activities will resume fully.”
The university administration expressed concern for the safety of students and staff, advising those residing on campus to remain calm and law-abiding.
“Adequate arrangements have been put in place to ensure their safety,” Garba assured.
The statement also cautioned members of the university community about their movements outside the campus, urging them to “avoid exposure to any possible danger.”
The #EndBadGovernance protests in Kano State have been marked by both peaceful demonstrations and incidents of looting and property destruction.
While peaceful protesters have largely withdrawn from the streets, reports indicate that some hoodlums have continued to target stores and residential areas.
In response to the unrest, the state government initially imposed a 24-hour curfew, which has since been relaxed. Government spokesperson Halilu Dantiye announced on Sunday that the curfew hours would be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the coming days.
