Reports reaching The Explainer indicate that the leader of the proscribed group, Indigenous People of Biafra Biafra (IPOB) has been discharged and acquitted by the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja.
The court verdict upheld the appeal of Kanu who has been incarcerated since he was arrested and returned to the country last year.
In a post on Facebook, Kanu’s lawyer and human rights activist, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, confirmed the triumph of the IPOB leader with the words: “Appeal allowed, Oyendu Mazi Nnamdi KANU, discharged and acquitted.
We have won!,” he wrote. Kanu had in his appeal dated April 29 and marked CA/ABJ/CR/625/2022, applied to be discharged and acquitted.
