Tobi Amusan, the reigning Women’s 100 meters hurdles World Champion, has been exonerated of any anti-doping rule violation by the AIU. In an official statement released on Thursday, the World Athletics organization announced the immediate lifting of Amusan’s suspension.
Earlier in July, AIU had provisionally suspended the Nigerian athlete following allegations of missing three tests within a 12-month period. Subsequently, the case was referred to a disciplinary tribunal for thorough examination.
During her suspension, Amusan was excluded from the 26-athlete team designated by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) for the upcoming 2023 World Athletics Championships. Moreover, her inclusion on the official World Athletics (WA) list of competitors for the event was contingent upon the AIU ruling.

AIU’s recent statement revealed that a majority decision from the disciplinary tribunal affirmed that Amusan had not committed an anti-doping rule violation involving three whereabouts failures within a year.
This verdict guarantees Amusan’s participation and defense of her Women’s 100m hurdles title at the forthcoming 2023 World Athletics Championships, scheduled to take place in Budapest, Hungary, from August 19 to 27. Expressing her relief, Amusan shared on her social media platforms, “I received news this morning that the independent tribunal overseeing my case has concluded that I did not breach the whereabouts rules.
Consequently, no sanctions will be imposed, and my results remain valid. I’m elated to move past this ordeal and eagerly anticipate defending my championship at the upcoming World Championships. I’ve always been a staunch advocate of clean sport, and I’m truly grateful for the unwavering support from all of you.”
