Sumner Shagari Sambo, the Politics Editor and News Director of Arise News, has alerted the public about the fraudulent activities of identity thieves attempting to defraud unsuspecting people by impersonating him. The scammers have reportedly been using Sambo’s name and image to defraud unsuspecting individuals through deceitful phone calls and fake Facebook profiles.
Sambo took to his official Facebook account on Saturday to address the alarming situation. He revealed that he had received numerous reports regarding foreign numbers, specifically +213674562351 and +22896825425, contacting people through WhatsApp or employing fraudulent Facebook profiles, demanding money on his behalf by employing a range of deceptive tactics. These tactics, he said include fabricating stories about his alleged illness, involvement in an accident, or hospitalization. Furthermore, the scammers have also said they are in possession of sensitive materials, intelligence information, pornographic content, or compromising family records that they threatened to expose, thereby attempting to manipulate their targets.
Emphasizing the need for caution, Sambo implored the public to disregard these fraudulent calls and messages, underlining that they are all attempts to extort money using his identity. Assuring his friends, followers, and the public at large, Sambo affirmed that he was well, just as he stated that he remains undeterred by these malicious schemes. He confirmed that he has promptly reported the matter to the appropriate authorities, seeking their assistance in tracking down the scammers, who are believed to be operating internationally.
In his effort to prevent further victimization, Sambo warned the public to be wary of a Facebook account bearing the username “Banji Kujenya,” which wrongfully uses his picture as its profile image. Sambo categorically stated that he has no association with this account, urging everyone to disregard any communication or requests made under its guise.
