Recently, the ancient town of Agbede in Estako West Local Government (LGA) came alive with townspeople traveling from far and wide. Agbede men and women undertook long journeys from all over the country to attend the burial of Alhaji Ibrahim Idrisu, who was variously described as a generous man who touched the lives of many through his philanthropy and his commitment to bringing people together. Mourners who throng his residence to pay their final respects had countless stories to tell about how the deceased went out of his way all through his lifetime to create opportunities for people, including many whom he did not know personally. They spoke particularly about his efforts to ensure any young person in the community, who was qualified and needed a job, was encouraged by the deceased, until he was employed.
Among the scores of Agbede residents who poured encomiums on Alhaji Idrisu is the Executive Director of Resource Centre for Human Rights & Civic Education (CHRICED), Comrade Ibrahim M. Zikirullahi. In a deeply touching post on Facebook, Comrade Ibrahim expressed deep sadness about the demise of Alhaji Idrisu. He said ever since he received the news of the death of the deceased, he has been grappling with the difficult reality that the deceased was no longer here on earth to continue with his many acts of kindness.
He said: “Ever since I received the devastating news of your passing, I have been grappling with the reality that you are no longer with us. The pain of death is undeniable, but it is even more profound when it claims someone as precious as you. Nor heaven nor earth have been at peace since the news. Indeed, your departure has left an indelible ache in our hearts. You were a man of exceptional character, with a heart full of compassion for your family and friends. Your impact on the lives of those you encountered was immeasurable, and you never failed to inspire everyone around you. Thank you for living a great and fulfilled life, Sir.”
Comrade Zikirullahi further described the late Idrisu as an embodiment of greatness in every sense. The deceased was similarly eulogized for his indelible contributions to the development of the Ayuele community, efforts which were described as unparalleled. “You brought happiness to all who crossed your path and mentored many people, guiding them towards greatness. Thank you for a life well-lived. Your painful exit is a monumental loss to AMCOSA, an organization you loved so dearly, not to mention your deep-rooted connection with the ancient Islamic clan of Ayuele. Farewell, Sir. Your passing has further depleted the rank of conscious, committed, passionate and development leaders, whose wealth of experience is direly needed at this point in the resolution of the long-standing monarchical feud in Agbede, capital of Ayuele land. Rest on Dr. Idris.” Many other mourners similarly eulogized the late Idrisu, just as they prayed for his family and the entire community to have the fortitude to bear the monumental loss occasioned by the passage of the kind hearted Alhaji Idrisu.
