In an effort to foster peace and reconciliation with his fellow comedian Ayo Makun , Renowned Nigerian comedian, Bright Okpocha, known as Basketmouth, has apologized to AY so as to end their decade-long rift over a financial dispute.
In a recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo in March 2023, Makun revealed a past grievance where Basketmouth allegedly failed to pay him a performance fee of N30,000 after inviting him to substitute at a comedy show early in their careers.
Makun disclosed that the event organizers had already paid Basketmouth for the show. Initially, Basketmouth chose not to respond to Makun’s claims and expressed a desire to sever communication with him, stating, ‘To be honest, I don’t want that guy to ever hear from you,’ in a widely circulated video.
However, Basketmouth has since had a change of heart and issued a heartfelt apology to Makun. He took to his Instagram page on Monday to express his sincerest regrets for any past actions that may have caused harm within the industry. “To my colleague AY, I’m unsure if my apology can amend the past, but if it holds any weight, please find it in your heart to forgive me for any past words or deeds that may have affected you.
I also want you to know that I have forgiven you for anything you may have said or done, whether knowingly or unknowingly. My aspiration is for peace and unity,” Basketmouth stated in the video he shared.
