ActionAid Nigeria has called on stakeholders to amplify the voices of women at the forefront of climate action and ensure their contributions are recognized and supported.
This call was made during the National Roundtable on Loss and Damage Impacts on Women in Fragile and Conflict-Affected States, held in Abuja.
Andrew Mamedu, Country Director of ActionAid Nigeria, emphasized women’s critical role in climate action, particularly in conflict-affected areas where climate change exacerbates existing vulnerabilities.
“We must commit to amplifying women’s voices on the frontlines of climate action. Their work is essential and transformative, and it’s time they receive the recognition and support they deserve.”
The event featured the Women Climate Champion Award, celebrating women whose efforts have led to positive changes in their communities.

Mamedu noted that the award highlights innovative approaches that challenge traditional methods while promoting sustainable solutions.
ActionAid’s efforts were praised by Angbashim Y. Ishaku, Director of Climate Change for Nasarawa State’s Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources.
Ishaku stressed the importance of gender-responsive policies in tackling climate change, as women bear the brunt of climate impacts.
