In response to the Sunday bombing in the Tundu Biri community of Kaduna State, protesters flooded the National Assembly premises in Abuja on Wednesday demanding justice for victims.
The Nigeria Army had on Monday took responsibility for an accidental airstrike that killed 85 persons and injured 66 others according to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
However, The Explainer gathered that the death toll has now risen to 120, as confirmed by officials from Amnesty International who visited the affected villages.
The demonstration, which lasted over two hours, saw the protesters block the entrance gate, demanding accountability from the Minister of Defence, Abubakar Badaru.
The protesters sought justice for the victims and called on the minister to either fulfil his responsibilities or step down.
Nasir Ishaku, the leader of the protesting groups representing the National Youth Council of Nigeria, North West Zone, and Arewa Youth Movement, addressed the media, emphasizing the need for justice. He expressed concerns over the country’s deteriorating security situation since Minister Badaru assumed office as the Minister of Defence.
“For those who have eyes to see, let them see well, and those who have ears to hear, let them listen attentively. Nigeria is not well because Nigerians are being killed day by day.”, he said.
