The Delta State Bureau of Orientation has announced its plans to launch a comprehensive campaign aimed at raising awareness about the legal consequences of tax evasion and highlighting the importance of timely tax payments by individuals and operators in the informal sector.
Dr. Latimore Oghenesivbe, the Head of the Bureau and Executive Assistant on Orientation and Communications to the Governor of Delta State disclosed the plans in Asaba on Saturday, December 2.
Oghenesivbe emphasized that the bureau would collaborate with the State Internal Revenue Services to drive the campaign, aligning with the government’s objective of generating over N12 billion in monthly revenue next year.
“We are committed and ready to partner with government agencies and organizations to promote Governor Oborevwori’s MORE agenda through strategic campaigns that focus on government policies and programs, while emphasizing the need for citizens to fulfill their civic responsibilities, including timely payment of taxes,” stated Oghenesivbe.
He further outlined the bureau’s plans to engage in public enlightenment programs through various mediums. These include radio and television jingles, a podcast for social media, billboards, and town hall meetings in both communities and educational institutions. The campaign aims to educate the public, particularly the youth, about the negative consequences of tax evasion and avoidance, with a broader focus on discouraging crime and drug abuse.
Oghenesivbe reiterated that tax evasion and avoidance are serious criminal offences that should be discouraged. He stressed that paying taxes is an essential part of citizens’ civic responsibility to the state.
