The latest FIFA men’s rankings for November have seen Nigeria slip two places, dropping to 42nd in the world from their previous position of 40th. The decline in the rankings is largely attributed to the Super Eagles’ disappointing start in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Under the guidance of coach Jose Peseiro, Nigeria began their qualifying campaign with a lackluster 1-1 draw against Lesotho at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo. This was followed by another underwhelming performance and a 1-1 draw against Zimbabwe, which took place in Rwanda.
With only two points from a possible six, Nigeria finds themselves trailing behind Rwanda and South Africa in Group C of the World Cup qualifiers. The Eagles’ lackluster displays in these matches played a significant role in their drop in the FIFA rankings.
Maintaining their top position in Africa, Morocco holds onto the 13th spot in the global rankings. Senegal remains in second place in Africa and 20th globally. Tunisia had a successful month in November, defeating Sao Tome and Principe and Malawi in their World Cup qualifiers. This achievement has propelled them four places up the world rankings, securing the 28th position globally while maintaining their third spot in Africa.
Algeria and Egypt have also made strides, moving up two places to secure the 30th and 33rd positions in the world rankings, respectively. The top five positions in Africa are rounded out by these two nations.
Despite a defeat to Uruguay in the qualifiers, Argentina remains the top-ranked team in the world. France holds the second position, with England surpassing Belgium to claim third place, while the Red Devils settle for fourth. Following their loss to Argentina, Brazil drops to fifth place globally.
