The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has extended a helping hand to farmers with disabilities who have been affected by floods in Anambra State. As part of their support, IOM has provided credit cards worth 30,000 naira each to these farmers.
The aim of this initiative is to alleviate the challenges faced by the farmers who have been forced to migrate from coastal areas to internally displaced centers due to the floods. Mr. Hezekiah Samuel, the Anambra Field Coordinator for IOM, addressed the farmers at the Anambra State Disability Rights Commission in Awka.
He highlighted the role of IOM as a UN Migration Organization, emphasizing their commitment to supporting those affected by natural disasters and promoting safe and organized migration.
Recognizing the vulnerability of persons with disabilities during such crises, Mr. Samuel stated, “We understand that persons with disabilities are particularly vulnerable during natural disasters.”

The credit cards provided by IOM contain 30,000 naira each, and a special PIN has been given for easy withdrawal. This assistance is intended to alleviate the hardships caused by the recent flooding.
Mr. Thomas Mark Onugbolu from the Anambra State Emergency Management Agency urged the farmers to effectively utilize the support provided by IOM. He expressed appreciation for IOM’s transparent project execution.
Representing the farmers and the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities Anambra State Chapter, Mr. Ikechukwu Ezeokafor expressed gratitude to IOM for their support.
The Chairman of the Anambra State Disability Rights Commission, Bar Chuns Ezewuzie, commended Mr. Chris Azor, the chairman of Anambra State Network of Civil Societies, for playing a vital role in notifying IOM about the commission’s needs.
Chairman Ezewuzie expressed appreciation for IOM’s support to farmers with disabilities who were affected by the floods. This partnership marks the commission’s first collaboration of its kind, and they are ready for future engagements with IOM.
