The Abia State government has made the decision to cancel the results of the Preliminary Test Sessions (PTS) conducted in the state-owned nursing schools.
The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Okey Kanu, during a press briefing held at the government house in Umuahia.
Kanu revealed that a new date would be set for the re-taking of the exams, stressing that the students would not be required to pay any additional fees for the process. Furthermore, investigations into the matter are still underway.
The cancellation comes in response to protests held by some nursing students in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State, two weeks ago.
The students raised concerns about alleged manipulations and compromises in the released examination results.
Several of the students also called for the removal of Mrs. Onyeukwu Nwakaego, the Director of Nursing Service in Abia State, whom they held responsible for the alleged irregularities.
Governor Alex Otti took swift action in response to the students’ grievances, establishing a committee to thoroughly investigate the matter.
The committee met with both the aggrieved students and the officials involved in the petitions, ensuring that all parties had the opportunity to present their complaints.
Governor Otti emphasized that any individuals found guilty of wrongdoing would face appropriate consequences, underscoring his commitment to fairness and justice in addressing the issue.
The State government eagerly awaits the evidence of the allegations brought forth by the students for a comprehensive investigation.
