In a compassionate act aimed at recognizing and supporting the families of police officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, presented a total of N2,276,110,966.80 in settlement group life assurance and IGP Family Welfare Scheme benefits to 613 beneficiaries. The event took place at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Thursday.
The Life Assurance Scheme, funded by the federal government, and the IGP Family Welfare Scheme, funded by the Nigeria Police Force, were designed to ensure the wellbeing of the families left behind by deceased officers. During the presentation, the IGP urged the beneficiaries to utilize the funds judiciously for the benefit of their families and to address day-to-day challenges.
Expressing the NPF’s commitment to the welfare of all its officers, including those currently serving, retired, and deceased, the IGP emphasized the significance of the event. The amount distributed represents the combined benefits for the policy years 2020/2021, 2021/2022, and 2022/2023.
Addressing the gathering, the IGP expressed his condolences to the families of the fallen officers and acknowledged their sacrifices. He assured the beneficiaries that the presentation of these cheques is not only a symbolic gesture but also a practical means of acknowledging and supporting them during a difficult time, offering financial relief to ease their burdens.
The IGP commended the dedicated efforts of the Force Insurance Unit and the collaborating insurance companies, who worked tirelessly to ensure the prompt settlement of the claims to deserving beneficiaries. He also expressed sincere gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his commitment to police welfare and for facilitating the timely release of the premium for the Insurance Scheme.
The presentation of these cheques signifies the Nigerian Police Force’s unwavering support and appreciation for the sacrifices made by its officers and their families. This discretionary assistance aims to alleviate the financial strain experienced by the families left behind while honoring the memory of their loved ones.
