A recent graduate of Ambrose Ali University (AAU) located in Ekpoma, Edo state is facing a dire situation after the institution allegedly refused to release his exam results. Identified as Precious Ogbeide, the student completed his studies in 2018 but has yet to receive his official certificate. The delay has taken a heavy toll on him, leading to a reported suicide attempt. According to reports by PUNCH, Ogbeide’s parents have expressed concern over his battle with depression due to the prolonged absence of his academic results, despite completing a five-year program at the university.
Ogbeide’s distressing situation escalated to a point when she attempted to commit suicide. This alarming incident has shed light on a wider issue, as other aggrieved students at the institution also voiced their frustration over the delay in receiving their degree results. The university administration had repeatedly assured students that the backlog of results would be addressed to allow those awaiting clearance for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to proceed.
An anonymous source familiar with the matter revealed that Ogbeide, overwhelmed by his situation, tragically contemplated ending his life due to the immense frustration and disappointment caused by the delay in receiving his academic records. He felt unable to face his family and potential employers after investing five years in education without anything tangible to show for it.
