BOKO HARAM’s INVASION in Wajirko and Wulgo military bases in Gamboru Ngala Area of Borno State left many injured including the commander who led the reinforcements of the attack.
According to a source who spoke to DailyTrust, the security and local sources confirmed the raids on Tuesday.
One of the military sources said a convoy of the newly Brigade Commander ‘Operation Hadin Kai’ in Damboa rode on landmines planted by the insurgents.
According to the source, the Wajirko and Wulgo Army formations survived different terrorist attacks.
“The commander who led reinforcement troops stepped on the landmines, which injured him and other soldiers, but some terrorists were killed in the encounter,” he said.
The Wulgo Army formation is made up of combined troops from Nigeria and Cameroon. Wulgo shares border with Cameroon.
The incessant attacks are happening at a time the government is putting pressure on security agencies to reopen the Maiduguri-Damboa- Biu road, a distance of 185km.
The road has been inaccessible by commuters and motorists due to serious security concerns.
Senator Ali Ndume (APC, Borno South) under whose constituency the incident happened, expressed shock over the attack.
He said the renewed Boko Haram attacks in the areas call for serious actions by the government, despite acknowledging the efforts of the troops.
“It is really terrible the renewed Boko Haram attacks in Borno, especially in Southern Borno Senatorial District.
“As I speak, many communities in Gwoza, Askira-Uba, Chibok, Damboa, Biu, Hawul among other Council Areas have been witnessing a series of attacks, destruction and looting of property without confrontation by our security forces.
“It is also unfortunate that these attacks are coming at a time when Governor Babagana Zulum is making frantic efforts to reopen the Maiduguri-Damboa- Biu road which connects about five local government areas in my constituency to Maiduguri, the Borno State capital”
He called on the federal government to wake up from its slumber to address the root cause of insurgency by deploying sophisticated technological warfare “including drones to end this madness”.
Efforts to speak to the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Kenneth Daso to comment on the attack were not possible as his mobile line was not reachable.

In another development, armed men suspected to be ISIL affiliate in West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists wreaked havoc in Ba’ale village of Damboa under Borno.
According to ZagalolaMakama, a security expert in a tweet on Tuesday, reported that the gang men attacked three men returning from Ba’ale village in Damboa area, killing one person and injuring two others.
“The attack occurred when Bula Sanda (35), Kadai Hamza, and Kadai Mustapha, who had gone to collect Baobab tree seeds”, he quoted his source to have said.
“Tragically, Bula Sanda was shot dead, while Hamza sustained a gunshot wound to his right hand, and Mustapha was wounded in the right thigh”..
“A vigilante leader, Alhaji Mala, reported the incident to security forces, leading to the victims’ evacuation to General Hospital Damboa”..
He further stated that the deceased was later released to his family for Islamic burial rites.
