Nigerians Groan As Data Price Surges
Following the change in price by the network, MTN subscribers had taken to X to backlash network for their increase of tariff plans
The Explainer noted that an X user @jibreelKhalil posted with a caption, “Now that network providers have begun to increase their tariff plans, the government should do everything possible to ensure the increase of quality in data and network services. It’s unacceptable to be charged higher rates for subpar services and rapidly depleting data”.
Another X user, @Limasyre reacted that NCC approved a 50% tariff hike on telecoms in Nigeria, lamenting that the price increased from N2000 to N6000.

His caption tweet reads, “NCC approved 50% tariff hike on telecoms in Nigeria. A price increase from 2k to 6k for the same 15GB weekly data plan is a 200% increase. A 50% hike is supposed to be 3k. Good luck to all the parties involved. As for me, I’m not buying that plan again. MTN well-done.
Another X user, @Demolarewaju also posted with a caption,”Tariff increase of up to 50% for telcos approved by the NCC, but nobody is interested in compensating us for bad services. PHCN said Band A but you can’t get predictable or minimum guaranteed power supply.Nigeria under Tinubu is failing, but he and his cabal are living large”.
There is more, The Explainer found that another X user, @the_tech_writer similarly tweeted with a caption, “I heard some influencers campaigned for data tariff increase! Now that MTN 15GB data has increased from 2k to 6k, I hope the money you collected will last you a lifetime”.

An X user, @Dewaleolaoye posted with a caption, “Naa, this data increase is crazy If all you need in a month is 75GB which was formerly 16k+ now 20k, there is 120GB for 22k… the difference is cra£y, and it’s not about the tariff increase alone, MTN wants us to buy MORE and get little or no value for it”.
In encapsulation, @Damiloisrael tweeted expressed dissatisfaction with the increment, noting that he would opt for another network provider.
Dear @MTNNG I can finally leave in peace now that you’ve decided to increase data prices from 15GB for 2,000 naira to 6,000 naira, putting more pressure on Nigerians. This is way too much.
