President Bola Tinubu has directed the Federal Ministry of Justice to work with the National Assembly to address concerns raised by various stakeholders on the four tax bills.
This move comes as the Senate prepares to meet with a delegation of the federal government on Thursday to resolve concerns surrounding the tax reform bills currently under review.
According to Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, the meeting will take place at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja. Jibrin emphasized the importance of lawmakers having extensive interaction with the government before deciding whether to pass the bills.
The Senate Minority Leader, Abba Moro, will lead the senators to the meeting, alongside other notable senators including Tahir Monguno, Adamu Ailero, Seriake Dickson, and Titus Zam.
The tax bills, which have passed the second reading in the Senate, aim to streamline tax collection, ensure compliance, and optimize revenue.
President Tinubu transmitted the bills to the National Assembly, urging lawmakers to give them expeditious consideration. The bills include the Nigeria Revenue Service Establishment Bill, the Joint Revenue Board Establishment Bill, the Nigeria Tax Bill 2024, and the Tax Administration Bill.
